Check-in assessments

This term our Year 5 and (next week) our Year 3 students have had the opportunity to undertake some DoE literacy and numeracy ‘check-in’ assessments. These are on-line assessments which are providing very quick turnaround in feedback for teachers. With the impact of COVID this year, the cancellation of NAPLAN, these are a great method for teachers to see how their students are achieving and provide us as a school some great data to plan for future learning focuses.

 Reconciliation Action Plan

This year we have a very productive and enthusiastic team of staff on our Aboriginal Education Committee. Over recent weeks they have been developing a Lake Albert Reconciliation Action Plan or RAP. It outlines a variety of processes, procedures and actions we will be making as a school to ensure whole school community awareness, sharing, understanding and respect for the Aboriginal culture, as well as working to ensure a strong sense of belonging for all students. Once our RAP has been approved, we will be sharing it with our families.

NAIDOC Week

In Week 5 of Term 4 we will be celebrating NAIDOC Week. Once again, our Aboriginal Education team are working on some fantastic plans for this. We are hopeful that by then we may be able to have parents on site, however if not, our students will still experience a variety of wonderful activities.

Whole School Tabloids Fun!

Next Thursday 24 September we are planning a special tabloids and BBQ lunch as an end-of-term ‘Big Day In’ to celebrate the wonderful efforts of our students during this term – a term which once again, has been full of restrictions. Students will ‘compete’ within their House groups (we have 5 teams per house) K-6, with our Year 6 students leading a series of fun activities. Children will have recess at 11:30; tabloids from 12:00 – 1:30; a BBQ lunch (supplied by our wonderful P&C!) from 1:30 – 2:15, then back to class for the afternoon session. Students may wear their house colours on the day (Angel – blue; Brunskill – green; Graham – yellow & Blamey – red). Students who do not wish to have a sausage sandwich need to order or bring their lunch as normal. The canteen will be open during the lunch break for extra snacks, ice blocks and slushies for students to purchase.

Book Week

This year we will be celebrating Book Week in Week 2 of next term. Our wonderful librarians, Ms McKenzie & Mrs Williams are developing plans for the week. At this stage we are working on a ‘virtual’ Book Fair, as well as Book Character dress up day on Wednesday 21 October and a virtual author visit. More details in this newsletter.
