Principal's Message

2021 classes and staffing

As discussed at last night’s P&C meeting, we will be forming 21 classes in 2021. We have moved to try to form more grade-based classes. Classes will be as follows:

 4 Kindergarten classes

3 Year 1 classes

3 Year 2 classes

2 Year 3 classes

1 Year 3/4 class

2 Year 4 classes

2 Year 5 classes

1 Year 5/6 class

2 Year 6 classes

An IO support class

We have a number of new staff joining us in 2021, some staff on leave and others moving into other grades/ roles – all of these are still being finalized. I hope to announce teachers on these classes and students in each class by the end of week 9. As in previous years, once classes are announced and student placements decided, it is not an opportunity for parents and carers to start requesting changes. It is a mammoth task to determine classes each year and our families need to trust the decisions made by our staff in determining best placements for students.

Year 6 primary days nearing an end!

What a dreadful year it has been for our students in so many ways. Our Year 6 students in particular have had many missed opportunities. We are working to ensure these last few weeks are full of positive experiences for all students, but in particular for Year 6. A variety of events are planned over coming weeks. These include staff vs Year 6 sports challenges; the Year 6 dinner at the Boat Club on Tuesday 8th December, Big Day Out events for all stages; Presentation Day Assemblies on Thursday 10th December (these will be Zoomed for our families to view) and a farewell assembly for Year 6 on Wednesday 16th December. For this final assembly we will be permitting our Year 6 parents into the school grounds to view (from the LAPS oval area – with social distancing in place!) – more details to come.

Thank you P&C!

A huge thank you to the outgoing P&C executive. What a year they have had to navigate! We are grateful for the continued support throughout the year. We are also extremely grateful for their financial support this term. The P&C have funded the Stage 3 Temora Aviation Museum excursion, the Year 6 dinner, as well as contributing to all stage Big Day Out events – thank you! At last night’s AGM the following executive members were elected:

President: Laura Fitzpatrick, Vice President: Crystal McInnes, Secretary: Chris McKee, Treasurer: Lisa Honeyman. I look forward to working alongside the team in 2021.

Kinder Orientation

This Thursday sees the first of 2 modified Orientation visits for our 2021 kindergarten students. The session will be from 2:00 – 3:00pm with parents coming in to quickly drop-off in the school hall and pick-up outside the front gate. Due to the limited nature of this year’s orientations, we will not form the kindergarten classes until early Term 1. This will give teachers more opportunity to observe the students and determine best placement. Our Kinder parents and carers will be provided with a timeframe for Term 1.

2021 Leadership nominees

What an awesome group of students we had presenting their speeches last Monday! 23 girls and 18 boys nominated for the privilege of being a school captain, vice-captain or prefect. I know our students and staff must have had a very difficult time voting. Any of these students would make a wonderful leader. I have now counted (and triple counted!) the votes and can verify just how close the votes were! I will be announcing the successful candidates at the Stage 3 Presentation day assembly on Thursday 10th December.

Day for Indie

As many of our families would be aware, one of our wonderful students, Indie Trevaskis is currently in Sydney Children’s Hospital undergoing radiation treatment following surgery to remove a brain tumour. This resilient, positive little girl has amazed everyone with her attitude and fight. Next Friday 4th December we will be holding a ‘crazy hair’ fundraiser for Indie. Students are asked to wear their craziest hair styles and bring along a gold coin to support this very worthwhile cause. Please help us to help Indie. We are thinking of you Indie and sending big hugs!
