Our award system
At Lake Albert Public School, we celebrate student effort and achievement through our merit award system. Students can receive a variety of awards throughout the year, recognising both their learning and personal growth.
Families will be notified by the class teacher when their child is receiving an award at an assembly. We hold up to three K–2 and 3–6 assemblies each term, with dates provided at the start of the year.

Types of awards
- Class merit award: Class merit awards are handed out each week at stage-based meetings, not at K−2 or 3−6 assemblies.
- Assistant principal award: Assistant principal awards are handed out at K−2 and 3−6 assemblies.
- Principal award: Principal awards are handed out at K−2 and 3−6 assemblies.
- Book award: Book awards are handed out at K−2 and 3−6 assemblies.
- Value award: Value awards are handed out at K−2 and 3−6 assemblies.
- Medallion award: Medallion awards are handed out at K−2 and 3−6 assemblies.
- Honours award: Recognition certificates are handed out at K−2 and 3−6 assemblies. Honour pins are handed out at the end of year on Presentation Day.
Award levels
Students progress through the award system by collecting class merit awards.
- First 10 merit awards → Assistant principal’s award
- Next 10 merit awards → Book award
- Next 10 merit awards → Medallion award
- Final 10 merit awards (total of 40) → Honours award.
After achieving the Honours award, students move to the Silver level and start the process again. Once they complete Silver, they progress to the Gold level.
Value awards
Our new value awards are awards to students who demonstrate one of our three core school values:
- Be respectful
- Be responsible
- Be resilient.
One value award is worth two class merit awards.
