Our extra-curricular highlights
Trips and excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
Chess
We have a strong chess team at Lake Albert Public School, with competitions held between local schools. Students in our chess team range in age from Year 1 to Year 6.
Young Communicators competition
Each year, students in K-6 are involved in our public speaking competition, the Young Communicators. Students prepare and present a speech about a topic of their own choice, with the possibility of being chosen to represent their class and year at the school finals
Student representative council (SRC)
Our SRC gives students the chance to be involved and practice leadership, teamwork and communication. Students are elected by their peers (or selected by their teachers if in Kindergarten). We select SRCs in Term 1 and Term 3.
Music tuition
Our students can learn music during school time through the Riverina Conservatorium of Music. There are a large range of musical instruments that can be explored and all are taught by trained music teachers.
Student leadership
When students are in Year 5, they have the opportunity to be nominated as School Captain, Vice Captain or a School Prefect. Year 5 students start this process in Term 4, in preparation for their final year at school.
Athletics carnival
Each year, our students compete in the LAPS annual athletics carnival. Our athletics carnival promotes school spirit, fitness and confidence.
Debating and public speaking
Students at LAPS have the chance to learn and practise the skill of debating by joining our debate team. This opportunity is usually offered to Stage 3 students. Students can participate in competitions held between local schools.
Choir
Students have the opportunity to join our school choir.
Our choir performs at school, community events and special concerts.
Swimming carnival
Each year, our students compete in the LAPS annual swimming carnival. Students who perform well at the may go on to compete at a zone or regional carnival.
Premier's Reading Challenge
Our students are active and enthusiastic participants in the Premier's Reading Challenge.
